Product Description
With 176 destroyers in the class, the Fletcher is one of the most recognizable ships of the war. From the boilers to the bunks and control panel, this cutaway contains a staggering amount of detail. Even the rails have been cut out.
Considered by those who served aboard, the Fletcher was perceived as the peak of WW2 destroyer development. Designed by Gibbs & Cox of New York, the first of 175 Fletchers entered service in the summer of 1942. After the war, all the surviving Fletchers were put into reserves, and many saw action again in Korea and Vietnam. Today, few still exist but, a handful operate in foreign countries while three have been converted into museums: DD-537 USS The Sullivans, DD-661 USS Kidd and DD-793 USS Cassin Young.
